The spine has to tilt sideways to maintain a proper shoulder plane and spine-axis

April 26, 2020- by Steven E. Greer

I saw a good post by Jake Hutt of Stanford about how the spine actually tilts sideways during the swing. It tilts to the left in the backswing and to the right in the downswing. For me, this was a crucial piece of the puzzle that I was missing.

Watch my swing in the white shirt develop a too-flat shoulder plane at the top. This makes it next to impossible to recover and make proper impact. The head becomes too tall and then it has to dip in the downswing.

However, in the blue shirt, I tilted to the left in the backswing and to the right in the downswing. The hip and spine positions were dramatically different.
