The Viktor Hovland pause-backswing might be the ideal backswing

Update June 23, 2019- He used it in a real round during his pro debut. I too use this backswing pause when I feel like I am under pressure and might rush the swing. I love this guy

I went to Pebble Beach to watch the 2018 U.S. Amateur. I was delighted to see that the champion, Viktor Hovland, uses the same backswing-pause drill that I invented on my own.

This pause drill is a great way for the person trying to learn the backswing and what it feels like. It also helps the expert golfer who has a swing that has run amok.

The pause at the top of the swing helps with timing of the lower body transition. Most golfers have a tendency to get too fast under pressure, abbreviating the backswing, then getting the upper body ahead of the lower body.
